"I was perusing through Troop 45’s history and I noticed an article from the Starkville Daily News that required date verification. It is dated circa 1963 – 1965. It was submitted by Mrs. Leota Cardwell. The article reads as more of a Watonala Lodge promotion and the Lodge’s participation in the V-E Conclave at Camp Salmen in Slidell, Louisiana. That Conclave took place in 1963, but I am unaware of the actual date." (Text courtesy of Watonala Arrowman Sam Graves)

| On October 31, 1960, the weekly Starkville News became the Starkville Daily News. With that change, local news became almost non-existent, and most SDN news became AP national and international news. This effectively stopped all detailed scout coverage in Starkville, and the good history source used from 1952-1960 ceased to exist. |

| National Jamboree |
Scouts from T45 attend the Fifth National Jamboree in Colorado Springs, Colorado. These include Preston Self, James McKenzie, Hunter Eubanks, John Capen, Andy Rhoades, Bob Bernard, Allen Snowden, Charles Newell, Billy Mitchell, Bill Johnston, Johnny Johnston and Robert Trotter. This group traveled by chartered Trailways bus, and spent the night along the way at Paris, Texas Junior College, Webb AFB, Biggs AFB, Holloman AFB, and Hotel Yucca in New Mexico. They also toured Juarez, Mexico, Carlsbad Caverns, and the World Championship Rodeo. |
| Summer Camp |
Summer camp is held at Camp Palila. For all four sessions, Hunter Eubanks serves as camp quartermaster, Andy Rhoades operates the Trading Post, and Bob Bernard is in charge of the dining hall and kitchen. |
|

|
This is a photo of Troop 45, probably taken at Camp Palila during summer camp, and probably around 1960, based on the boys we can identify in the photo. Notice the five-sided troop flag, and the frame that was pioneered for it. Nobody knows were this flag is now, but it would great if it could be returned to the troop. Note that all the Scout uniforms had long sleeves, and there are a couple of expedition uniform caps in the group.

Bluff Lake. Bruce Baggett and Stewart Webster. "The photos of he (Stewart) and I on the site, identify them as taken on the Tombigbee River. I believe they were actually taken on Bluff Lake....Stuart's father, Burton Webster, was the Manager of the Noxubee Wildlife Refuge for over 20 years and we spent a lot of time there....and on one occasion as documented in the photos, we were going over the spillway in a Grumman 17' Square Stern canoe that belonged to Stewart." c.1963-65 (Photo Courtesy Mrs. Leota Cardwell, ID Courtesy Sid Crigler) |
